Requirements

Baby Passport Photo Requirements

Baby passport photos need the same careful 2x2 passport-style output, with child-specific handling for background, shadows, support, and eyes.

Core photo requirements

  • Use a clear, sharp photo with the child facing the camera.
  • Use a plain white or off-white background with no distracting texture.
  • Avoid shadows on the face and background.
  • Keep the child alone in the photo; no parent, hand, toy, or support should appear.
  • Prepare a 2x2 passport-style photo and a correctly sized print layout.

Baby and toddler notes

The State Department says it is okay if a baby's eyes are not entirely open. Other children should have eyes open, face the camera, and keep a neutral expression where possible.

What we check

  • Face visibility and centering.
  • Plain light background and shadow risk.
  • 2x2 crop and 4x6 print-sheet formatting.
  • Common retake issues such as visible support, blur, or poor framing.

What we do not guarantee

Passport Photo Rescue is not a government agency and does not guarantee acceptance. We help reduce common mistakes before you download and print.
